New Trustees – On Tour!

July 13, 2023

On 12 July, Manchester Central Library Development Trust, the charity that supports cultural and educational programming and archives work in Manchester Libraries, including branch libraries, welcomed recently appointed new Trustees and Associate Trustees on a special behind the scenes tour of Central Library, led by Neil MacInnes (MCC Head of Libraries, Galleries, Culture and Youth Services) and Brendan O’Shea (Trust Chair).

The tour was an opportunity for the new recruits to explore hidden gems in the venue and to get to know Trust and libraries staff before getting down to business in the autumn, helping to develop support for the fantastic activities, like family fun days, that take place in Central Library and our vibrant branch libraries.

Following a successful recruitment campaign, the Trust expands its membership from four to seven non-paid Trustees and is delighted to welcome Hannah Fitzpatrick, John Rooney and Jenni Willows, who all bring excellent skills and experience, and much enthusiasm and love for Manchester Libraries and the work of the Development Trust.

In addition, the Trust has created a brand-new role of Associate Trustee. The three new postholders, Clare Doyle, Nia Thomas and Ashley Thorpe, will contribute to Trust activities with a view to becoming full Board members in the future. The new role, also unpaid, will help the Trust with succession planning and represents a fabulous opportunity for the three new recruits to develop knowledge and skills required as a Trustee.

Development Trust Chair, Brendan O’Shea said:

“We are delighted to welcome our new Trustees and Associate Trustees. We were impressed with the high quality of applications we received and the successful applicants demonstrated a genuine passion for our work. As a larger Trust, we are now looking forward to continuing to work in partnership with the Manchester Libraries team to continue the excellent work across the service.”

Councillor John Hacking, Executive Member for Skills, Employment and Leisure also welcomed the new Trustees and Associate Trustees. He said:

“The Central Library Development Trust plays a hugely important role across all our libraries, and ensuring we have the right calibre of people as trustees to help support our cultural and educational programmes and build on the already fantastic work they do, is really important.  I am very pleased to welcome these new trustees to the library family and look forward to working with them in the future.”
